Ellie Mack was the perfect daughter. She was fifteen, the youngest of three. Beloved by her parents, friends, and teachers, and half of a teenaged golden couple. Ellie was days away from an idyllic post-exams summer vacation, with her whole life ahead of her.

And then she was gone.

Now, her mother Laurel Mack is trying to put her life back together. It’s been ten years since her daughter disappeared, seven years since her marriage ended, and only months since the last clue in Ellie’s case was unearthed. So when she meets an unexpectedly charming man in a café, no one is more surprised than Laurel at how quickly their flirtation develops into something deeper. Before she knows it, she’s meeting Floyd’s daughters—and his youngest, Poppy, takes Laurel’s breath away.

Because looking at Poppy is like looking at Ellie. And now, the unanswered questions she’s tried so hard to put to rest begin to haunt Laurel anew. Where did Ellie go? Did she really run away from home, as the police have long suspected, or was there a more sinister reason for her disappearance? Who is Floyd, really? And why does his daughter remind Laurel so viscerally of her own missing girl?

  • Interesting storyline that kept me intrigued!

I read this book in about a day (mostly because I’m in quarantine with limited WiFi access, so the next best thing is to read lol). I really enjoyed this book though. The author did a great job telling the story from different points of view. I didn’t quite expect the ending to be what it was, but it made sense in hindsight! I highly recommend this book!
  • Predictable

The book started out interestingly enough, but soon it plodded along. It wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure the stories plot. Jewell is a fine writer for the most part and could certainly write clothing descriptions for a fashion catalog, too.

I could not put this book down. The author has a way of capturing your attention and keeping you reeled in. The story line, as well as the characters, was easy to follow. Would definitely recommend! Great read!

Haven’t felt this way about a book in years..... couldn’t put it down and finished it in 6 hours. Forced my sister to read it the next day... she finished it overnight! THAT good.
  • An interesting take on a relatively tired theme.

There are better versions of this story out there, but for what it is the novel held my attention and gave a slightly different take on the theme. I didn’t find myself especially invested in any of the characters and felt like some areas were a bit empty. The main character’s relationship with her adult children fall into this category. While this seems like an important angle to the protagonist’s perspective on events, it was mostly unexplored. All in all, a worthwhile read if you keep your expectations in check.
  • Love

I love this book. It might be a favorite of mine. It made me happy, then sad, and it made me feel everything each character was feeling. I cried of happiness once and then cried from feeling sad for the characters. Great book!
